...the maniacal meneer as a young lad...

Friends, near and far, you are hereby invited to possibly the most exciting and most maniacal birthday party you’ve ever experienced, spanning the whole weekend (16th – 18th January) served up in 3 main courses, with an appetizer and a smashing dessert!

To be clear, no one is required to attend for the full event; you may choose to join for just the appetizer, or just a main, or just dessert, etc. Feel Free!

Furthermore, you should know that the maniacal meneer does not request any material gifts, but would be glad for any stories, songs, or laughs that you might have to share. In specific, gifts of alcohol are expressly forbidden and all of the festivities will be completely alcohol-free for all involved, as the meneer is the child of generations of alcoholics and enjoys sobriety.

Now, the schedule:

The Appetizer:

Friday 16th Jan. @ 20 hours military time, or 14 hours swahili time:
Venue: 3 Camp St., Gardens
Come with any instruments, voice, spoons, body percussion, etc. for a Just Us and Just Totally Crazy Jazzy Jam, with special guest Osun Art Mathibela on the drums (or bass, or piano, or harmonium, or whatever he feels moved to play)! Be prepared for a-tonal mayhem; liberating joyful music!

Main Courses:

Sat. 17th January 2009

Course One: Swimming
13 hundred hours military (7 hours Swahili):
Venue: Sea Point Pavillion Pool, along the Sea Point Promenade. Weather compelling, we will all have a nice swim. If not, or also, we eat snacks and smaaks as well as preparing songs, costumes and other insanity for the silly, skipping, laughing, biking, yelling PARADE down the promenade, which will commence at…

Course Two: Mini-Golf Tournament
15 hundred hours military (9 hours Swahili)
Venue: Along the promenade, towards Mouille Point Putt-Putt
That’s right, Putt-Putt! It is a full on tournament of our skills as miniature golfers (which, it should be clarified, have essentially nothing to do with being full-sized golfers!). There will be two rounds of mini-golf played, by all in attendance. The first round shall be an extremely generous, though still competitive round. The second match will be played on the more difficult course, with a less forgiving set of rules. That is, semi-exam mode! The cumulative score of the two rounds will determine the winner (in the event of ties, there will be sudden-death!). All rules will be explained before the beginning of the first round. No apathetic or half-assed play will be tolerated! Come to have fun, but play to win!

Course Three: Dinner Extravaganza
@ 13h Swahili Time, 19h Military (Note: this is a departure time, so it is precise!)
Venue: 97 Hope St., Gardens, Ring bell for #8
In keeping with the theme, the meal will be served in courses. The exact menu cannot be revealed on the internet, but the basic outline is as follows:
1 – Sunset Snacks, with Moonrise Munchies
2 – Meat-free Main Madness
3 – Teas and Coffees and Sweets and Games and Music [guests, please feel free to bring games, juices, sweets, etc]

Please take note: as the maniacal meneer is himself the chef for this meal, he has requested that all those hoping to be well fed arrive precisely on-time, at 13:00 Swahili, and partake in the full meal. Late-comers may find no one available to feed them.

The Dessert:

Sunday, January 18th 2009

@ 4:30 Swahili/10:30 military
Venue: Giovanni’s Italian Delicatessan, Main Road, Green Point
Down one of the nicest coffees available in Cape Town, and pick up whatever else you would like for the picnic. We will hike to Europe (TM) a very important and magical place, to picnic together and collectively, safely, send the meneer off on his journey to Budapest for round two of maniacal birthday celebrations. The hike is relatively leisurely, but will be roughly an hour and a half of steady walking, so be prepared. Europe is a comfortable, beautiful place to enjoy Cape Town, and those who do not feel up for the hike and have a car may contact the meneer for directions.
